Square Enix just can’t seem to catch a break with Final Fantasy 14, and since the launch of A Realm Reborn, neither can its devoted audience. A delude of players entered the fantasy MMO with a ferocity that the team just didn’t expect, and as you’d guess, the servers crumbled under the might of the player base. That’s led to severe connection issues for the 230,000 concurrent players, but fortunately, Square Enix has decided to extend the trial period by an additional seven days to make up for the poor service.
Players who are yet to redeem the trial will be eligible for the additional seven days if they register before September 9, but everyone else who’s been almost unable to engage in the much improved world has these free days right now. The servers will be taken offline from 17:00 PDT on Sept. 3 to 03:00 PDT on Sept. 4 for Square Enix in order to increase the login capacity and bump up the number of available worlds.
"Because login and character creation restrictions have hindered our ability to provide quality service, all Final Fantasy 14 service accounts will receive an additional seven days of free play time," Square Enix said. "Furthermore, users who have yet to enter their registration codes will receive an additional seven-day trial should they register before 11.59 pm (PDT) on September 9, 2013. Moving forward, we will continue monitoring the servers to ensure that quality service and support are provided in a timely manner."
This will likely act as the MMO’s busiest period, so hopefully Square Enix can solve any and all issues before fans move on to the next big thing.
