While Tomb Raider sold 3.4 million copies in its first month it failed to meet Square Enix's expectations even so, a sequel has seemingly been confirmed by comic writer Gail Simone in a Kotaku interview.
Simone has been brought on board to create a comic book based on Lara's adventures which will lead directly into the videogame sequel.
"We start just a few weeks after the end of the game," Simone commented, "and this is all continuity, it will be Tomb Raider canon, and lead directly into the sequel. This is what got me excited; we get to be part of Lara Croft history."
The writer also spoke to Polygon saying, "I played the original game and I liked the character she was. But when I had the chance to play the new game, to see how she dealt with isolation, how she thinks and acts and grows, I was completely in love with her."
In the comics Croft will be "on a mission to find answers to questions she just cannot let go," and Simone added that Lara's travels would take her around the world.
Tomb Raider was entirely confined to a single island but it's not yet known if the globe-trotting nature of the comic will be reflected in the game sequel.
The game was largely praised although some felt it relied too heavily on QTEs and had a weak multiplayer component. What would you like to see from a sequel?
