Infinity Blade: Dungeons seemed like both a nice story and a game worth watching last year. The mobile dungeon crawler was being developed by the newly minted Impossible Studios, which contained a great deal of talent from the recently closed 38 Studios. It may not have been a sequel to Kingdoms of Amalur or a new MMO, but those creative folks from 38 and Big Huge Games were lucky enough to have jobs not long after entering unemployment. However, news of the game being put on halt due to the new company's closure soon broke, and now, the project’s full cancellation has been confirmed by Chair Entertainment.
Speaking on the most recent episode of the official Epic Games podcast, Chair co-founder and creative director Donald Mustard gave the bad news that Dungeons won’t be making it out to the market. Really, the whole thing was cancelled earlier than we thought.
"When the studio that was working on [Dungeons] was closed, the game was cancelled. That's really all I can say,” he stated.
Thankfully, that doesn’t mean the Infinity Blade series is dead in the water. There are additional stories that Chair feels should be told, and since this is one of Epic’s most profitable franchises, it wouldn’t make any sense to stop now.
"There's more we at Chair are totally planning to do in the Infinity Blade universe," Mustard said. "More Games, more books, maybe even other products. And we are very excited about that."
It’s a sad story, but at least there’s some sort of closure on the whole issue. Expect to see more from Chair in the near future.
