Warmachine: Tactics Looks to Bring Tabletop Gameplay to PC, Mac

July 11, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

This new Kickstarter project has the tabletop world abuzz.

They may not be the talk of the town these days, but there’s a certain charm to a classic tabletop game. Instead of going outside and playing some sort of sport, fans of these number-crunching adventures have been teaming up with friends and exploring uniquely generated worlds for years and years. The steam-powered world of Warmachine, which is a game that’s seen many awards since first being introduced to the public, has decided to revitalize its brand by becoming more than just a physical product. Two independent developers have come together on Kickstarter to bring Warmachine: Tactics onto both the PC and Mac, and yes, the fans have responded.

How is this possible? These two teams are taking inspiration from some of the genre’s best, adding a new level of dynamism to the gameplay that’s likely never been seen before.

“Privateer Press Interactive and video game developer WhiteMoon Dreams have joined forces to bring Warmachine to life,” the Kickstarter page reads. “Inspired by the predecessors of this hallowed genre like Valkyria Chronicles, Final Fantasy Tactics, and the X-COM franchise, Warmachine: Tactics seeks to break new ground for turn-based tactics games by delivering a never-before-seen level of dynamic battlefield combat.”

There are plenty of units, tactics, and world-building elements that can be perused on the game’s official page, but really, just check out the above pitch video if you’re interested. The campaign was just posted, and of its $550,000 goal, $446,000 has already been pledged at the time of publication. It’s an exciting, unique prospect, and one that will absolutely reach its goal.
