The Order: 1886 was announced as a PlayStation 4 exclusive at Sony's pre-E3 media briefing and comes from Ready at Dawn – most widely known for their PSP God of War titles. In an interview with the PlayStation Blog studio head Ru Weerasuriya explained more about the game and what players can expect.
"The Order is a third person action adventure with shooting mechanics," Weerasuriya explained. "It's very much story-based – it's a liner story-based game. We're trying to tell a story. It's what we call a 'filmic experience'."
He commented that "Games have a tendency sometimes to be too clean and crisp. We thrinve in the dirt. We just love the fact that it feels dirty. It's filmed in a very realistic way."
Weerasuriya said that London was chosen for this very reason adding "For me, London is one of the greatest cities in the world. There's a real diversity there. It has a very interesting history, particularly at the end of the 19th century during the Industrial Revolution.
"Because this game is based in the real world, we wanted to feed off that and use some of the events, the people and the stuff that existed in that time to accentuate and bring our IP into a world that is believable."
Weerasuriya also said that Ready at Dawn would be revealling new details about the game in due course including what he described as "very, very cool" gameplay features.
Weerasuriya has previously revealed that the game was in development limbo for "years" before Ready at Dawn got their hands on PS4 dev kits.
