Fortnite Nintendo Switch Lands 2 Million Downloads In A Day

June 14, 2018 by Jordan Coetsee

Fortnite for Nintendo Switch smashes its launch!

Considering the massive success Fortnite has had with other platforms, we were certain that the sneaky drop of the battle Royale title onto Nintendo’s console, the Switch would be no different and it seems that our hypothesizes have been proven

In just 24 hours since the game released on the platform, it has allegedly received 2 million downloads. Given that the install base of the Nintendo Switch is likely under 20 million right now, this could mean that 1 in 10 Switch owners have already downloaded the game.

“Fortnite’s launch went extremely well — we had more than 2 million downloads in less than 24 hours,” Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, told Polygon in an interview at E3 2018 today. “I think that speaks to the power of the franchise, the engagement of our players and the resonance of being able to play it anytime, anywhere.”

In other Fortnite news, the game will not support cross-play between PS4 and Switch.

‘As you might recall, when Rocket League announced cross-play last year, Sony was adamant about not supporting cross-play between rival console – and when Fortnite cross-play was revealed earlier this year, Sony maintained it’s stance. Now with the announcement of Fortnite on Nintendo Switch, some hopeful fanboys have been hoping that just maybe Sony would feel a little generous to Nintendo Switch owners.’
