In a blog post on their official website, Finnish developers Housemarque announced the existence and current development of a spiritual successor to the Super Stardust franchise. The successor to the asteroid destroying dual-stick shooter will release as a PlaySation 4 exclusive game.
The Finnish developers released Super Stardust HD on the PS3 near launch which eventually became one of the free games to apologize for the PlayStation Network hack in 2011. Housemarque also developed Super Stardust Delta, a PS Vita launch title with features specifically made for Vita's rear touch panel and front touch screen.
Speaking about the PlayStation 4's new hardware, Housemarque's CEO Ilari Kuittinen said:
"The platform's performances are enabling us to do things that wouldn't be possible otherwise and we truly believe that better technology can lead to better gameplay."
Housemarque also aims to stay true to the "core gamer audience" by prioritizing gameplay mechanics in game development.
Alongside the Super Stardust spiritual successor, developers Housemarque continues to develop another unannounced PS4 project. Due to the poor sales of the PS Vita, expect these titles to also receive the Cross-Buy treatment. New games and a potential price cut will definitely breed a resurgence of Sony's struggling handheld.
The developers explain that more information will release in the coming months.
E3 seems like a good time for it.
