Sony has issued a reveal trailer for Studio Japan's upcoming title Panopticon which is a cel-shaded sci-fi action adventure title set, as least partially, in London.
A timer on the game's official webpage appeared last week and peculiarly counted up to the reveal rather than down. In the game each character has a similar timer over their heads; it's unclear what this might be for in gameplay or narrative terms.
Althought it does appear that a robotic security service uses the numbers to catalogue each human. We see a woman give birth to a baby with the designation 1,000,000 possibly suggesting that in the game's ravaged dystopian future there's only one million people in existence. It's notable that the 'count-up' also ended at 1,000,000, likely suggesting the child is a key character or plot point.
Sony did not announce a launch platform for the system and with the announcement of Gran Turismo 6 yesterday for PS3 it's possible Panopticon will also be headed to that platform. Of course, it could be a PS Vita or PS4 title instead. Included in the trailer is a date – May 21st – when we'll likely learn more. Coincidentally that's also the date of the next Xbox reveal.
Apart from Panopticon Japan Studio is also developing Knack for PS4 as well as Rain and Puppeteer.
