Among the Sleep, the first-person horror game in which you play as a toddler, has raised enough money through its Kickstarter campaign to release much sooner than otherwise. Now that the campaign has surpassed its $200,000 goal, those working on the game can quit their part-time jobs and get the game finished and shipped.
To celebrate reaching the final leg of the journey towards this goal, yesterday Krillbite Studio released a free playable alpha of the game. This alpha is not the one promised to those backers who pledged $100 or more, which will apparently feature a bigger part of the game and more polish, but does include enough gameplay to give you an idea of what the final game will be like.
The team also promises to release a stereoscopic (i.e. viewable in 3D) video of the game for those with Oculus Rift headsets to get a sense of what it could be like to play the game in virtual reality mode. An Oculus Rift playable alpha – the same as was made available yesterday but with Oculus Rift support – is also on the cards, though Krillbite warns that it'll take more time.
For those who are keen to play the game in virtual reality mode with their Oculus Rift headsets, a stretch goal at $225,000 will ensure that the game gets proper Oculus Rift implementation (though the game will include basic implementation either way). The campaign total currently stands at $205,248, but only has three days left, so if you want to increase the chance that Oculus Rift gets in you might want to make a pledge now.
