We may all love a good sequel, but there’s just something special about a new intellectual property. Fresh characters, environments, and gameplay concepts are often born through new franchises, and according to the Take-Two Games' earnings call conducted today, something special is coming from the major publisher in the near future.
CEO Strauss Zelnick was in a pretty good mood during today’s call, and really, he has some pretty good reasons to wear a smile. With games from the 2K label like BioShock Infinite, Borderlands 2, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown all performing well both critically and commercially, Take-Two Games seems to be flying high. Oh, and don’t forget that Grand Theft Auto 5 game that’s supposed to launch later this year. That’ll probably do just fine, too.
"Fiscal 2014 promises to be one of our best years ever, highlighted by the upcoming launch of Grand Theft Auto 5 in September,” he said.
Along with the appearance of what could be the biggest game to be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Zelnick discussed the exciting transition we’ll be making into a new console generation. Plenty of series will be returning when Microsoft and Sony enter a new technological age, but some brand new IP will also make their “groundbreaking” debuts.
"We also have an extraordinary pipeline of titles in development for next-generation platforms, including groundbreaking new intellectual property and releases from our proven franchises,” Zelnick continued.
As of now, the only new IP that we know of is Agent, which made an appearance years ago at a Sony E3 press conference. That could be one of these major titles, but we also expect to see a slew of exciting projects appear in the months before the holiday season.
