Far Cry 5 the latest iteration in the Far Cry franchise has been subject to lots of attention in the lead up to the game’s launch. Some gamers were worried that we’d see more of the same Far Cry junk (open-world, liberate, move on blah blah blah), while others had faith in the new changes Ubisoft was bringing to the formulaic game.
When the game finally launched 27 March it was met with widespread critical acclaim, Far Cry’s changes had worked, and skeptics were brushed aside. Now it seems that the success has directly translated into sales (as one would assume). Via the PC platform Steam, Far Cry 5 has sold half a million copies – this officially makes Far Cry 5 the fastest selling game in the franchise. What’s more, this excludes the other storefronts Ubisoft lists on, such as like Uplay, or retail.
‘Far Cry comes to America in the latest installment of the award-winning franchise.
Welcome to Hope County, Montana, land of the free and the brave but also home to a fanatical doomsday cult known as Eden’s Gate. Stand up to cult leader Joseph Seed, and his siblings, the Heralds, to spark the fires of resistance and liberate the besieged community.’
Far Cry 5 is out now for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
