Remember that modern Call of Juarez game? Yeah, that wasn’t a whole lot of fun for anyone. Techland’s reimagining of its western-themed franchise took an odd turn in 2011 with The Cartel, and according to the game’s critical reception, it wasn’t exactly the developer’s best move. However, all is not lost in the world of cowboys and outlaws. The team hopes to right its past wrongs with Call of Juarez Gunslinger, which throws players back into the old, dusty environments and centers around the dastardly Silas Greaves.
Now, I don’t know about you, but this doesn’t seem like a trailer too focused on the actual story of the downloadable title’s leading man. Instead, this appears to be a hyper-violent, stylish look at some of the action featured in Gunslinger. I don’t really know what that says about the game’s old-west narrative, but it’s safe to say that Mr. Greaves will be doing some serious shooting during the game’s campaign.
Similar to the television series Deadwood, the upcoming Call of Juarex will be composed of memorable encounters with some of the West's most notorious characters. Ubisoft and Techland are hoping to "blur the lines between man and myth" in this new project, with this new bounty hunter being set up as the new, memorable protagonist.
It’ll all come together when, for the first time in the series, Call of Juarez launches as a download-only game. Expect to see it on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 May 21 for the dusty price of $14.99.
