Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins, the 3DS prequel to the Wii U game Lego City Undercover, only came out in the UK last week, but some enterprising young players have already worked out a glitch that makes it easier to finish the game. Andy Robertson, of Family Gamer TV, has released a video that explains how his kids discovered the useful workaround.
Apparently, Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins includes GTA-style sidequests for each of the undercover outfits protagonist Chase McCain can wear. To find these sidequests, players have to use the police scanner on the bottom screen of the 3DS, but that scanner only works when McCain is on foot. If he gets into one of the many vehicles he can drive in order to make his way around the city and find the sidequests more quickly than by walking, the scanner stops working. He has to regularly stop, get out of the vehicle, and use the scanner to find sidequests.
But as Roberton's kids have figured out, there is a way for McCain to get around the city more quickly than walking without having to actually get behind the wheel. Instead, McCain can jump on top of a car without the driver realising, and wait for them to drive off on their prescribed route, riding around the city stood on top. If a sidequest is nearby, the scanner will flash, and McCain can jump off the car and check it out.
According to Robertson, this discovery has made his kids much more keen than they have been with other Lego games to complete these side missions:
“The kids have now almost completed all the disguise side-missions and I think their car-surfing trick helped speed this up. In other Lego games they have lost interest before completing them.”
