Atlus has released a new trailer for Etrian Odyssey: Millennium Girl that focuses on the cutscenes and characters of the game.
Etrian Odyssey: Milennium Girl is a remake of the first Etrian Odyssey game released on the DS in 2007. One of the significant changes in this remake is the inclusion of a set cast of characters. Milennium Girl features a set story with character drama and voice acting, something that wasn't present in the original Etrian Odyssey. Though the appearance and voices of these characters will always be set, you will still be able to change their classes to teach them different skills. The default classes for the main cast appears to be a Landsknecht, Gunner, Medic, Protector, and Alchemist. It's interesting, considering the fact that the Gunner class wasn't introduced until Etrian Odyssey II.
The fantastic cutscenes are animated by renowned Japanese animation studio Madhouse, who have worked on classics like Trigun, Cardcaptor Sakura, Paprika, and Millennium Actress.
If this cast of characters isn't to your liking and you'd rather have the classic Etrian Odyssey experience, it has been reported that Etrian Odyssey: Millennium Girl will give you the option to play a "Classic Mode" that will be more similar to the original game.
Etrian Odyssey: Millennium Girl will be released in Japan on June 27th. It doesn't feel like it's been very long since the last Etrian Odyssey game was released stateside, but the US release came 7 months after the Japanese release. There has been no announcement on a North American or European release, but the Etrian Odyssey series has had a good track record so far, so I'm optimistic. I only hope that the red-headed Protector gets a new name if/when the game is translated, because Racoona is a terrible name…
