You may not know James Rolfe, but you've no doubt encountered his alter ego once or twice. He's best known as the Angry Video Game Nerd, which as the name implies, is a series of online videos in which a "nerd" reviews horrible video games, ones bad enough to cause him to curse like a drunken sailor.
Even if you haven't actually seen any actual AVGN videos, you've no doubt still seen one of the countless imitators that have sprung forth as a result. Because every YouTube video of some person getting irrationally angry about any game was either directly or indirectly inspired by James Rolfe's creation.
Recently, Rolfe decided to take thing to the next level by producing a feature length movie starring his nerd persona. The basic plot concerns what is widely considered the worst game of all time, aka ET for the Atari 2600, which is one of the most oft requested game for him to comment upon. But there's more. In the form of an Angry Video Game Nerd video game.
It's called Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures:
The game was presented on Steam Greenlight only recently, but had no trouble getting the thumbs up.
As one can tell, it's clearly molded after various classic NES titles, like Kirby, Mega Man, and Castlevania. Which were all good games, last I checked. Shouldn’t they be based upon bad games? Isn’t that the point of the show?
Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures is actually in a no lose situation: if the game is actually good, as in fun to play, it will be celebrated. But if it's not that, people will still give it the thumbs up, because that's what the Angry Video Game Nerd is all about, isn't he?
One can't also help wonder if the producers of the game completely missed the boat by not having it based upon Retro Game Master, which is a game in which you play fictional NES games. Oh well. No solid release date has been given, just a nebulous 2013 timeframe. So till then, feel free to play the quiz that Rolfe's friend is currently running.
