Not all shooters need to be gritty, realistic interpretations of modern war. While it’s killstreaks and constant, nagging progression that leads the charge in the current era of first-person shooting, Interceptor Entertainment is looking to revive the fun, over-the-top feel of classic multiplayer shooters with the upcoming release of Rise of the Triad. This reborn classic is infused with a heaping helping of both attitude and style, and the recently released 18-minute chunk of gameplay shows off quite a bit of what makes the project so special.
Similar to past greats like Serious Sam and Unreal Tournament, Rise of the Triad blends both speed and brutality to create fast, furious rounds of online multiplayer. The developer has described the shooter as a revival of the earlier Rise of the Triad, which was a 1995 PC game developed by 3D Realms and published by Apogee Software. Apogee will once again take the role of publisher with this 2013 version of a beloved classic.
Back in 2012, we had a chance to talk to Dave Oshry, a member of the marketing team for Interceptor, about anything and everything Rise of the Triad. When discussing the purpose of the reimagining, Oshry stated that the project just made sense.
“Interceptor needed a project that fit in with their love for old school fast paced first person shooters after Duke Reloaded was put on hold,” Oshry said. “Apogee needed the right team to reboot one of their most iconic IPs. It was a perfect match.”
All the blood and bullets will be making their way to Steam this summer.
