BioWare has published a blog post to confirm that it won't be bringing any more DLC for the multiplayer part of Mass Effect 3. Here's the official word from Jonathan Warner, the Senior Producer on the Mass Effect series:
“It has been our pleasure to run and support this service for over a year now and provide the maps, kits, gear, and weapons that we all love. I wanted to thank everyone who played Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer, and participated in our challenges and events. You have made working on it a real pleasure.
After a solid year of dedicated service, we are now turning our attention to new projects and endeavors, but Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer will live on. Our challenge system and N7 HQ will be maintained and looked after.”
Given that Citadel was the last piece of DLC for the single-player part of Mass Effect 3, and that BioWare is now working on the next Mass Effect adventure (which won't star Commander Shepard), it's hardly surprising that we won't get any more multiplayer content. But it's good to see that BioWare will still support the service for at least a little while longer, considering that EA has built up a bit of a reputation for closing down support for online services. But then they're obviously keen to keep people playing it, or they wouldn't have bothered creating the infographic of multiplayer stats that was published earlier this month.
Do you play Mass Effect 3 multiplayer? Will you give up now that we won't get any new content for it?
