Prey developer Human Head Studios' former COO Ash Monif and artist Randis Albion have co-founded a new studio, Grimm Bros, which looks set to make RPG games based around classic authors' writings.
The developer's first game, an unnamed RPG, is already well into development and will be shown off at the Games Developer Conference next week. The title will be launched on PC and tablets though there is no current release date.
"I have always been a fan of complex subject matter," Monif noted, adding "I grew up reading the classics; Grimm, Chaucer, Tolkien – and I feel that today's games gloss over a lot of the richness that can be found within these great works.
"Our goal is to build a community of core and mid-core gamers who are seeking out a redefined RPG experience," Monif said.
There have been several videogame adaptations of classic literary texts such as Dante's Inferno, a much altered take on Dante Aligheri's 'The Divine Comedy' and multiple Lord of the Rings games though those have largely been based on Peter Jackson's film series rather than Tolkien's original work.
Grimm Bros isn't the only new studio this week with five Pixar staff forming Steel Wool Games as a side-project to their work at Disney.
