When the much anticipated, perspective bending indie platformer known as Fez was released at long last, many who had been patiently waiting were finally able to play the game that they had long fantasized about. Provided if they owned a Xbox 360. Unfortunately, many have yet to give the game a spin, even almost a year after its release on XBLA.
Perhaps the one single question that game's creator, Phil Fish, has been asked the most is: when is it coming to the PC? Followed by: when is it coming to the PS3? Well, the days of the Fez's Xbox 360 exclusivity is coming to an end at long last. Which we've known for some time now, but we finally have a date. May 1st to be exact, which is when it'll arrive on Steam.
As for any extras, don't expect any. According to Fish on Reddit, the upcoming PC version will more or less be the exact same game that's on Microsoft's console. Furthermore, both Mac and Linux versions are also in the works, and which would also be released via Steam. No date has been given for this second port, but it too will be like the 360 version.
Not only that, but ports for both iOS and Ouya are also "highly probable" according to Fish. Though most surprising of all is word that he'd like to have Fez on PSN, with the Vita getting a specific mention. Though it is also not confirmed as of yet.
So, it would seem as if the game is coming out for every platform. But that's not quite true; when asked about a 3DS port, Fish's response was:
"we don;t have any plans for that, no. people keep assuming fez would be a no-brainer on 3DS, but in truth it would be kind of pointless. the game is practically always shown in isometric 3D, there's never any perspective there. i don't think it would work."
One more thing: when asked if Fish could go back in the time, would he have released Fez on the 360 exclusively, this is all he had to say:
"noooope."
