Arma 3 is in a playable Alpha state that the community can enter into by pre ordering the full game at retail cost. As a benefit, any user with an opinion can add commentary on a bug or a potential feature and people can vote whether they believe it’s a necessary addition that should be concentrated on. One such issue has been hotly raging within a huge discussion thread, that’s whether or not the designers should account for female avatars, requiring new models and voicework.
The vote is nearly deadlocked, but for the moment is only just in favour of the full release providing female avatars. This doesn’t necessarily guarantee that it’ll be acted upon, but suggests that the complaint is noted by the development team.
Those on the side of inclusion have offered commentary like:
Zombo:
53 votes down? wtf? it's just added content, why be against it?
i agree this needs to be added at some point, only-male soldiers is a bit ignorant, though i am sure the arma developers didn't do it on purpose
…try being honest to yourself people, if you dont want female models in this game and pretend "it takes to much time to implement" or "it isnt realistic to have womean carry a gun" or "it's not important" you are just making up excuses for being sexist, this is a feedback, and a feedback that is deserved to be looked at and fixed in the future
The Coyote:I don't understand why people would vote AGAINST this feature.
It won't change gameplay. Nobody's shearing your cock off. It simply adds another dimension to immersion representing the likely makeup of armies twenty or so years into the future. Okay, I can imagine the Iranian side being composed solely of men, given that it's an Islamic theocracy. But NATO? Canada's had female infantry for years. The US has finally had that change in 2013.
If you don't like it, play a male character. Don't be an ass and downvote it.
On the side of remaining a purely male experience we have comments like:
The Champ:
I can't believe this has relieved so many up-votes
Please stop this politically correct/feminist "we are all equal" shit. Women don't fight in the military, there are women in the military, but they don't fight. Having a female running around in Arma 3 would literally be the stupidest thing ever and kill the entire game for me. The end.
siegeh25:
I'm down voting this because
1) this is an issue board, were we report issues, not simple texture reskins you idiot
2) there are no women in the military on active combat duty
3) this is supposed to be a SIMULATION
4) stop forcing developers to add women in games or make them more to women, your not the develoer who worked months or years, day and night, working on a game just to hear women bitch about "oh no he didn't put this or that or made her look more of a rambo type, i'm ganna bitch and bitch and bitch till i get what i want.
5) specifically why do you want women in Arma 3? why now? there where more then 5 other games based on arma (and flashpoint) and now you decide to do this? and stating that "women are in the front lines" is not a valid reason
Brandt:Adding women as soldiers into A3 will mess up the public multiplayer since most kids and newcomers migrating from other games will most likely run around half naked now when characters can be partly undressed.
Futhermore women have no place in combat and the women serving in different branches in many armies are only there for show, but this is a topic that is discussed on the official forum.
I find it sad that this "issue" has not been deleted from the feedback tracker.
Broulder:Not only it would threaten game's balance due to women being smaller, therefore having smaller hitboxes, but the way this issue has been posted is just revolting.
2035 is far into future, and I can see women on the front lines in the future, but is it REALLY a high priority issue? Do you REALLY REALLY feel that devs should spend their time implementing females as combatants? Take your feminist bullshit elsewhere. This game is barely alpha and issues should be prioritized, female soldiers are DEFINATELY not high priority.
Or this, from someone whose username we’ve opted not to include
If you include female models you need to make them weaker so they carry less gear, the way it really is. That way nobody will want to play with women in battle, just like real life.
And, for some reason, most worryingly of all:
Panimala:
I can't wait to kill hundreds and hundreds of female soldiers if they add them. :^)
