The Last of Us is by all accounts, slated for a May 7, 2013 release date.
The game is set to feature two protagonists, Joel and Ellie, as they trek through a brave new world in which humanity has been decimated by a fungus that transforms people into mindless husks—or zombies, in other words. The duo must contend with surviving the wilderness and eluding these infected humans while also evading other survivors who aren't much friendlier than their creepy counterparts.
The game's release date was announced late last year in the game's story trailer, seen below.
The game's release date may be in jeopardy, reports VGRevolution, which discovered that the product listing for The Last of Us on GameStop has since been altered to June 18—a whole six weeks from later its original May 7 date.
The report by Marc Price also indicates that Best Buy customers are also being notified of the delay, as seen below in this screenshot (via VGRevolution). The product listing on Best Buy has since been updated to reflect the delay.
At this point in time, Amazon still shows the May 7, 2013 release date.
The Last of Us is exclusive to the PlayStation 3, and players who pre-order it before its release (regardless of delay) are entitled to receive the Sights and Sounds Pack, which includes the game's soundtrack and a couple of PSN avatars with the its protagonists.
We've reached out to Sony for comment on the possible delay.
