Guns are out, cannons and flying ships are in. For its latest game, the development team responsible for massively popular multiplayer survival game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is trying their luck at something fresh: good old fashioned steampunk.
A teaser trailer for MMORPG Ascent: Infinite Realm shows off a flourishing mechanical society in which adventurers of all ilks must explore, battle, and conquer mythical beasts in the hopes of settling down. Flight is your main form of transportation, and Ascent: Infinite Realm offers you a range of ways to get airborne including flying mounts, special vehicles, and airships.
And yes, you’ll be able to engage in skirmishes whether you’re flying high or harboured safely on the ground. Bluehole expains that Realm vs. Realm Combat is a strategically challenging PvP mode that lets factions fight for fame and glory with unique weapons at their disposal.
In August, Microsoft revealed that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds had sold an impressive eight million copies since its early access launch in March. That’s nearly double compared to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which has managed around 4.7 million units.
At this point, Bluehole Studios hasn’t spoken about any potential release date for Ascent: Infinite Realm, but did promise players there would be updates on key abilities, playstyles and class features delivered via its website. What do you think? Is this the next big hit for Bluehole? Check out the five minute reveal trailer below.
