In yesterday's installment of Nintendo Direct, a new Yoshi adventure was announced for the Wii U, starring Mario's intrepid sidekick as the star of his own game for the first time since Yoshi's Story. Under the creative helm of the folks behind Kirby's Epic Yarn, there is little to report on this title so far but Nintendo has been nice enough to release some screen shots to at least get a feel of the artistic direction (in glorious high def). You can see the other two below.
While speaking to a Nintendo employee at E3 2012 I had an interesting conversation that may give insight as to the direction of this title. After making a casual comment describing Kirby's Epic Yarn as a "spirtual sequel" to Yoshi's Story, the person I was speaking to became very excited and asked me to go into further detail, listening for twenty minutes as I described my passion for the original game and my longing for a sequel. I can only imagine it was because that Nintendo has been looking into the fan interest for another Yoshi game for some time. It's also under the direction of Takashi Tezuka, who was also responsible for Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story. Granted, the screens don't show any other Yoshis or the signature trail of eggs, but wouldn't it be interesting if this game picked up where Yoshi's Story left off?
