Ninja Theory has a surprise for fans of the original Dante, in a scene that serves—perhaps—as one big ‘fuck you’ to anyone who’s still clinging onto the idea that Dante should look like his old, white-haired self in the original Devil May Cry games.
The company faced a lot of heat for changing up the design of the formerly white-haired Dante into a young, hip black-haired, and attitude-laden version that’s more in line with modern sensibilities than whatever people came up in years past.
Despite the fact that the DmC received high marks from critics all around—including our own Kirk Mckeand, whose review of DmC went up earlier today—ardent fans of the series have been quick to dismiss these reviews as ‘paid for’ (they weren’t) with an insistence that the game somehow fails to live up to the quality of its predecessors. The game certainly lives up to its precursors, and more than that, Ninja Theory made DmC their own instead of attempting to copycat the titles that came before.
In any case, it’s amusing that the studio added this snarky tribute to the old Dante, reminding us that having white hair ain’t all that.
It's out next week on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
