This month saw the final issue of Nintendo Power, not just one of the longest running print publications to be dedicated to gaming, but one of the most cherished as well. Unfortunately, the harsh realities as it pertains to the world of print, mostly as it pertains to cost, as well as the rise and dominance of the internet, was not enough to keep the magazine afloat.
Yet the spirit lives on, or hopes to, in the form of the just announced Nintendo Force Magazine. It's an effort being spear headed by Lucas Thomas of IGN, who emailed various prominent journalists who exhibited a love for Nintendo after Nintendo Power's cancellation became public knowledge.
The new magazine is not designed to be a replacement, but more like an homage. As Thomas explains:
"Nintendo Force isn't Nintendo Power… But Nintendo Force is going to be, in every way possible, a spiritual successor to the great publication we've just lost. That means the same balance of content — previews, reviews. Coverage of downloadable games. Letters from readers and highlights for creativity happening out in the Nintendo fandom. It means the same eye for clean, appealing page design.
And it means a new team of the most dedicated, most knowledgeable, and most talented writers, designers, and artists ever assembled for any Nintendo coverage project."
