Level Cap Increase Coming to Borderlands 2, Sir Hammerlock DLC Confirmed

December 20, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

Sir Hammerlock’s DLC for Borderlands 2 has been confirmed for release early next year, along with a level cap bump.

A week ago, word had come out via a PS3 patch that Borderlands 2's next DLC would arrive in the form of Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt. Today, Gearbox has confirmed the leak and announced the DLC for real.

Set as the game's third DLC, Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt is set for release on January 15, 2013 and will cost $9.99 or 800 MS Points depending upon where you buy it. Like the previous DLCs, it's a part of the DLC Season Pass that entitles you to four DLCs not including the Mechromancer pack, which was available to anyone who preordered the game for free. The DLC will be available on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Players will set off to the continent of Aegrus on a hunting trip at the behest of the big game hunter with a mechanical arm, Sir Hammerlock, where they'll battle against a variety of new enemies and face off against an entirely new villain. He happens to be a huge fan of Handsome Jack, so you'll know he's up to no good.

The DLC sees the addition of a new vehicle, a whole bunch of new weapons, and a focus on high-level play. In short, it's intended for players with level 50 characters.

According to G4TV's Adam Rosenberg, the game will be given a level cap increase sometime in 2013. The same information has been echoed by Gearbox PR guy Adam Fletcher over Twitter, who wrote:

Borderlands 2 level cap increase is planned for Q1 next year.

It's my understanding that the the level cap will be released with a third playthrough option that makes the game even more difficult than the current "True Vault Hunter Mode". If it's anything like the higher difficulty mode, it'll also see the addition of many new variations of existing enemies and increased difficulty.
