GTA 5: New Screen, F2P Alternatives, PC Petition Hits 40,000 Signed

December 2, 2012 by Alex Co

Here’s your Grand Theft Auto 5 info mash for the day.

Even if it's the weekend, there's enough Grand Theft Auto 5 stuff going on that it warrants a new post and lucky for you, we're here to make sure you get to see 'em.

First up, we're here to bring you a new screen from the game showing Trevor Phillips riding a quad bike while holding a sniper rifle. Not being presumptuous, but seeing as Trevor is a "former" criminal and a drug addict, I suspect that whatever he's up to is sure to break a few laws.

Keep in mind that this is art from the game, rather than an in-game screenshot. It's still worth taking a look at and might even be suitable as a wallpaper for you desktop for GTA 5 fans.

Next on the docket is a video featuring the top free-to-play alternatives to Grand Theft Auto 5 for the pc. While sandbox games with character-driven narratives were unique back when Grand Theft Auto 3 was released, we now have a multitude of games nowadays that has the same gameplay mechanics. So, instead of featuring that, we're just going to show you the free alternatives you can play right now while waiting for Grand Theft Auto 5 to be released.

You might be surprised by some of the games being offered as alternatives by MMOBomb, but they seem to fit the bill quite nicely. Also, All-Points Bulletin or otherwise known as APB Reloaded, really looks good compared to its previous iteration, no?

Lastly, remember when we reported on how pc players were petitioning to Rockstar for a Grand Theft Auto 5 port? For those not familiar with the situation, Rockstar has announced a Spring 2013 release window for GTA 5 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. While they haven't denied or confirmed the pc version's existence, this was enough of a buzz for pc gamers to whip out their virtual pens and have their John Hancocks take a go at it. Anyway,  at the time of that posting, it was just at 7,500 people, but now, over 40,000 people have signed up (via IGN).

For reference, Grand Theft Auto 4 did hit the pc, but it was after seven months from the game's console release. Yeah, I gather pc people do not want to wait that long, no? Of course. when it did hit pcs, there were mods and other stuff that made it worthwhile and better compared to the earlier release, which makes me wonder why Rockstar hasn't announced it in the first place.

Well, there you have it. After looking at the art and maybe signing up for the petition, maybe you can then download and play some of the F2P alternatives to take off your mind off of GTA 5. Unless playing them hammers the point harder that you won't be able to play the game until Spring 2013. Not really sure which side of the fence you're on.

Why do you think Rockstar hasn't confirmed or announced a pc version for GTA 5? Do you think it has anything to do with the next-gen platforms supposedly coming to retail next year? If so, can GTA 5 be a cross-gen game?
