IO Interactive will not be making any more Hitman titles, Square Enix told investors, instead the Japanese Publisher developer and publisher will look for a new studio to take over the franchise.
“To maximize player satisfaction as well as market potential going forward, we are focusing our resources and energies on key franchises and studios,” Square Enix said in its statement. “As a result, the Company has regrettably decided to withdraw from the business of Io Interactive, a wholly‐owned subsidiary and a Danish corporation, as of March 31, 2017.”
The withdrawal went into effect from March 31st, which makes sense as to why IO Interactive has been so quiet on the promised second season of Hitman.
This comes as sad news as IO Interactive has been working on Hitman titles since 2009. Right now there is no news as to what IO Interactive will be doing from now, all that is known is that the Hitman series faces an unclear future.
in other news, players only have a couple more days to hunt down the 24th elusive target:
The 24th Elusive Target for Hitman season one will actually require players to have access to the Bonus Episode. The Bad Boy is one of the final three Elusive Targets left for Hitman season one, so if you were itching to get back into the game or just want to try your luck at assassinating The Bad Boy then you better get going.
