Turning towards the general public to finance a game is no longer a big deal. Mostly because it's such a common occurrence. The same could be said for the games themselves, for the most part at least. There are still exceptions to the rule, like Montas.
According to the developer, it "focuses heavily on immersion, atmosphere, story and interactivity. The player is cast into a dark and mysterious world with little introduction, and must do what is necessary to survive on a twisted ride full of intrigue and drama."
Okay, so that still sounds hardly anything special. There are numerous other examples of first person survival horror adventure games as of late as well, but Montas is the first (far as we can tell) to be Oculus Rift compatible. You know, that the fancy new head-mounted, 3D enabled display that got plenty of buzz recently. And which itself was also crowd sourced.
Many have long envisioned horror games being the one genre that Oculus Rift could help explode, so here we have our first official candidate. And it certainly looks promising. Though many who have dabbled with virtual reality displays know that movement is the biggest issue, and given how fast your character moves in the trailer, one has to wonder how well it will work in the actual game.
Also, if we're to be truly nit-picky, the subway cars depicted are all wrong. They're way to wide. But otherwise, the game does look great. The goal is $30,000, with only $780 raised thus far (as of this writing). But with 42 days to go, it still has a chance. If you'd like to donate, simply head here.
