EA CEO John Riccitiello admitted to analysts he knows that Medal of Honor Warfighter isn't going to do so well. The game has gotten low scores across the board, obtaining true mediocrity at a 50/100 across the board on Metacritic and average to low scores from nearly everyone who reviewed it.
This is the second time EA has tried to reboot the series, but this release and its failure have been uncharacteristically quiet as EA seems to have given up competing against Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty series. So it’s likely EA didn’t have too high of expectations for this latest incarnation in the first place, but it's a little surprising to hear it.
According to VentureBeat, Riccitiello said that EA doesn't win every game but it does put “more runs on the scoreboard” overall. He also mentioned that EA will have weaker earnings for the full year but EA did beat overall analyst expectations.
EA head of game studios Frank Gibeau also admitted that Medal of Honor Warfighter had a disappointing response from critics. He also said internal testing and mock reviews showed that the game was better than critics thought. “But there are people out there who just don’t like the game,” he said. In the end, what critics think does heavily affect sales, but that doesn't seem so everywhere. That same game has somehow topped charts in the UK, oddly enough.
