4. THE MYSTERY OF OLIVER LEVASSEUR
To continue with the theories we have to address another fan favourite. The mystery of Oliver Levasseur. In the golden age of piracy, the 18th century, a pirate named Levasseur was known for incredible heists. The most notable being that of the Nossa Senhora do Cabo, which is said to be equal to around $15 million now.
In the 2013 reveal trailer, there’s a giant X (marks the spot) at the location of Sainte Marie, which was where Levasseur and his pirates were based. There’s also a lot more mystery around Oliver Levasseur that would be perfect for an Uncharted installment.
When he was caught he was sentenced to hang, but before he was dropped to his death he threw a cryptogram into the crowd and yelled; “Find my treasure, the one who may understand it!”
Then in 1923, we discovered a rock with masonic carvings of a pirate’s last will. The unknown pirate had claimed to have found Levasseur’s treasure, and left hints of 12 tasks to complete, similar to those of Hercules.
The heart of this theory is that Sam has come to possess a cipher for the masonic code of the 12 tasks, and that he and Nathan will journey to uncover the mystery and find the lost treasure. So yeah- pretty damn cool.
