Is Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands A Borderlands DLC?

March 21, 2022 by Dani Cook

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a successor to the Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands release is only a few days away and a few fans are still unsure whether the game is a full-on standalone title or a DLC. This confusion is understandable as the game has been described as a successor to a Borderlands 2 expansion called Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep. The original DLC was released in 2013 and was a full campaign set within the world of fantasy-themed tabletop RPG known as Bunkers and Badasses, with Tiny Tina acting as a game master. The character was able to modify the game’s world at a moment’s notice and followed Tiny Tina’s struggle to accept the death of Roland.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is set directly after the 2013 DLC and likewise takes place within a fantasy-themed tabletop RPG. The titular character is once again a dungeon master and able to affect change on a whim. The upcoming game additionally features an overworld that players can use to travel to various locations and enjoy random combat encounters and quests. The action RPG appears to have both some significant similarities and differences to the Borderlands 2 expansion, so is Tina Tina’s Wonderlands DLC or a completely standalone game?

Tina Tina’s Wonderlands is a fully-fledged standalone game and not merely DLC. It may be a successor to a Borderlands 2 expansion, but that only attests to how well Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep was received by players and critics. The original DLC pack was the highest-rated add-on out of all four expansions that came to the 2012 game. Fans were incredibly happy with the expansion and thus, developers decided to give players even more Tiny Tina.
