11 Incredible Secrets You Can Find Right At The Start Of Video Games

August 18, 2020 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Games like to slap secrets where you least expect them. Here’s 11 of our favorite early secrets.

Get 75 Kremcoins — Enough To Unlock Every Secret Level [Donkey Kong Country 2]

Want to grab more Kremcoins than you’ll ever need? You can do that with a weird ‘cheat’ in Donkey Kong Country 2. By completing a very specific series of jumps and attacks, then returning to the captain’s cabin in the starting ship, 75 Kremcoins will appear — that’s enough to unlock every secret level in the game without having to hunt down more. That’s a pretty great haul, so why is it here!

My guess is that this weird cheat is all about testing the game. Developers need to test their games for bugs, and sometimes they include cheats to make the process a lot easier and faster. Most likely, this is one of those cheats that was just left in the game code. Who was going to discover it anyway?

T-Rex Lunch Right Away [Tomb Raider 2]

T-Rex and Tomb Raider go together like peanut butter and jelly. The king of the dinosaurs is a memorable encounter in the original Tomb Raider for PS1, and even appears in the Xbox 360 generation remake.

But, did you know you can fight the T-Rex right at the start of Tomb Raider 2? Just spin around in the starting cave, and there’s a lengthy climbing path that leads all the way to the giant dino. Not that there’s anything useful in this cave — except a few old skeletons.

Why is there a dino here? I have no idea. It’s just a fun little Easter egg you can show off to impress your (really old now) friends that care about aging PS1 games.
