NYCC 2018 Previews: LEGO DC Super-Villains is One of the Craziest LEGO Titles

October 9, 2018 by Nick Biazzo

LEGO fans, keep this on your radar!

For a couple of years in a row now, TT Games have been bringing their LEGO titles to NYCC and each year, I get the privilege to preview the game for the website. LEGO games are almost a standard at NYCC at this point and I’m super here for it. Maybe these games aren’t for everybody, but there’s something about the LEGO games that I find immensely fun, and LEGO DC Super-Villians manages to capture that same feeling.

Unlike any game in the franchise so far, we get a chance to play as the villains! Yes, the villains are now the heroes in this game, which is exactly the crazy kind of idea that TT Games are known for! Plus, the idea of playing as the DC villains, creates some new fun ideas for storytelling.  With a major catsophre leaving the DC villains left in charge to save the day, players will be tasked with saving the world with iconic baddies like the Joker, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor, and plenty of other deep cut DC villains.

TT Games also held a panel for the game, where they showcased some different footage than their show floor demo. We got to see some crazy new DLC plans, a look at where our Heroes are — Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman — and some of the iconic voice actors coming back to reprise their roles for their characters! A couple of the most notable voice actors are Mark Hamill as the Joker and Kevin Conroy as Batman. These two have been playing the roles of Batman and Joker for over 2 decades so it’s awesome to see them present in this game!

Now cutting back to the actual gameplay demo, we’ve got to see the game in action. And for the most part, it’s exactly what you expect from a LEGO title at this point. You break a ton of stuff, collect studs, and build your way out of scenarios. However, with each annual release, TT Games manages to bring a new sense of feeling to the gameplay, I don’t know how they technically do it, but each new LEGO title always feels slightly better than the previous year’s and that falls true for LEGO DC Super-Villains.

Players will be able to explore a vast open sandbox world that will transport users into iconic DC worlds such as Metropolis. This is a big part of Super-Villains as it has a ton of fun side activities to complete, collectibles to collect, and side missions to play. The main overarching story will take players on a crazy wild ride and I can’t wait to see it unfold later this Fall. If you’re a fan of LEGO titles or a DC fan in general, I would throw this up on my radar.

LEGO DC Super-Villains is set to release for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on October 16.
