There is a massive following for Obsidian Entertainment. The video game development studio has crafted up some pretty remarkable RPGs for players to enjoy and included in the mix is 2019’s release of The Outer Worlds. It’s a game that acts very much like Obsidian Entertainment’s take on the Fallout franchise with Fallout New Vegas. While most of us have already enjoyed the game already, we can prepare for another dive back into the title later this year as the first of two narrative DLCs planned is set to release.
In Peril of Gorgon, players are put right back into the game with their crew they crated up in the main campaign. From there, players will be able sent to Gorgon in a Noir-style game narrative filled with murder and mystery. As you investigate a mysterious drug, not only will players have to take their crew and navigate through difficult conversations and battles on Gorgon, they’ll have to revisit past hubs from the base game. Details are a bit scarce still, but from what we’ve seen stated, this DLC should take players nearly ten hours to complete which is a good chunk of time to add into this praised RPG.
#4 Doom Eternal
- Developer: id Software
- Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO, NS, Google Stadia
- Release: March 20, 2020
- Co-op: N/A
- Competitive Multiplayer
Chances are you played Doom if not the original id Software title then the remake that launched into the market in 2016. This franchise has come to a long way and now with a resurgence going thanks to the remake success, more fans are joining in as the role of Doom Slayer. For the slim chance that you’re not aware of this game franchise, Doom follows a space marine who ends up having to battle demonic creatures in space. All-in-all, that’s the premise of what you need to know. Now coming next year we get another kick at taking out demons, but this time on Earth. Taking place after the events of the 2016 remake of Doom, Doom Eternal follows a demonic invasion on the home planet.
This has caused Doom Slayer to travel back and save the human race once again. It’s full of big action-packed moments, a wide assortment of weapons, melee combat, and we’re sure that the developers at id Software have a few tricks up their sleeves. Doom Eternal was originally slated to launch in 2019 but the developers are looking to bring out a game that is fully ready to be enjoyed by the public so it was pushed back into the 2020 calendar year.
Now that the game is out players have been going through the main campaign and its received some great reviews overall. In fact, at the time of writing this, players can even dive into the first DLC expansion for the title, The Ancient Gods, which takes place after the events of Doom Eternal’s main campaign. As a result, we’ll refrain from spoiling anything here.
#3 Watch Dogs: Legion
- Developer: Ubisoft
- Publisher: Ubisoft
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO, Google Stadia
- Release: March 6, 2020
- Co-op: Online
- Competitive Multiplayer: TBA
The Watch Dogs franchise will have a third installment available in the markets next year. Watch Dogs: Legion will put players within the United Kingdom as DedSec attempts to stop a new powerful and intrusive regime. There are a few change-ups for this installment, but the biggest is the protagonist. Previously, the two installments of Watch Dogs featured a single protagonist throughout the narrative, whereas the main protagonist is seemingly DedSec as a whole. Players will be going through a nonstop rotating cast of character that you personally recruit from NPCs within the open-world city.
It’s ultimately your job to seek out NPCs and recruit them. After all, there is no game over screen if your character dies. Once a character dies in the game then they are removed completely, forcing players to jump into another character recruited. Likewise, just as before, the game focuses on high-end technology both to hack terminals and city features like traffic lights or simply gather intel from characters roaming the street.
There’s not too much tech featured in the game that is not already available today, Ubisoft does like to toss in plenty of neat gadgets for players to use throughout the game. We’re not entirely sure just what all will be included in this upcoming third installment but you can be sure that there will likely be a few tricks up your protagonist’s sleeves when you venture out into the dystopian city.
#2 Half-Life: Alyx
- Developer: Valve
- Publisher: Valve
- Platforms: PC
- Release: March 2020
- Co-op: N/A
- Competitive Multiplayer: N/A
While most of us were hoping for a Half-Life 3 announcement, Valve surprised the masses with a new video game release and one that’s set in the Half-Life franchise. Half-Life: Alyx is the next installment that takes place prior to the events of Half-Life 2. Players will be taking on the role of Alyx Vance, the daughter of Eli Vance. With aliens take over Earth, few stand as resistance in hopes of fighting off the enemy forces. Alyx will be going through quite the adventure as she takes the battle against the Combine alien empire.
There is one significant difference between this installment and the others. Half-Life: Alyx is a VR game made for PC compatible virtual reality headsets. You’ll find that the game will be as long as Half-Life 2 and feature the various attributes you’d normally see from a Half-Life title like puzzles, a strong narrative, and exploration. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any non-VR adaptation in the works.
#1 Cyberpunk 2077
- Developer: CD Projekt Red
- Publisher: CD Projekt
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: April 16, 2020
- Co-op: N/A
- Competitive Multiplayer: Post-launch
Cyberpunk 2077 has become one of the most anticipated video game titles of 2020 and for good reason. The same developers that brought out the highly successful The Witcher trilogy, is bringing out this science-fiction open-world RPG. This time around, players are put into the role of a mercenary named V who must work on odd jobs to build up the street cred to get the better-paying gigs. A big portion of this game involves augmentations due to advanced technology, gamers can have various enhancements made that will suit particular play styles.
We also know that this game features a big push in allowing players to go through missions and tasks however they please, but the choices you make will have consequences which could even lead you to a particular ending. As a result, players will get plenty of replay value if they wish to experience the different pathways you could take as you progress the narrative. Likewise, there’s always a good chance that CD Projekt Red will bring out expansions to the game similar to how they handled The Witcher 3.
Being set in the distant future, a big part of the lifestyle in Cyberpunk 2077 is augmentations. Players can purchase a wide range of upgrades that will cater towards their playstyle. Essentially, you can make improvements to your body mechanics that could allow you to take more damage or easily hack tech littered throughout the entire city.

During E3 2018 we got the announcement of a brand new IP being developed by Bethesda. The same developers who have brought out several Fallout video game titles along with The Elder Scrolls franchise are bringing out a game known as Starfield. The title will be another RPG experience for gamers to enjoy but is supposedly being developed for the next-generation of consoles. We also know that this game will be released before another fan anticipated title, The Elder Scrolls VI.
Details about the game have only been revealed in bits and pieces through various interviews. For instance, we know that space travel is something that will be apart of the game, but apparently, the technology is still relatively new making it a dangerous affair to take part in. Additionally, the development team even toured SpaceX to establish some basis for research along with some inspiration for their upcoming game release.
