Fortnite: Stranger Things Portals Are Appearing | Here’s What They Do

July 4, 2019 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Stranger Things secrets are popping up in the Mega Mall. Here’s what you can find, all related to Stranger Things Season 3.

July 4rth isn’t just Independence Day for America, it’s also the day Season 3 of Stranger Things dropped on Netflix. While we’re all busy binging the latest season of the kids vs. interdimensional monsters sci-fi series, Fortnite: Battle Royale has spawned a few Easter eggs onto the island for fans to discover.

The most obvious change are the strange portals appearing in the Mega Mall area of the map. They look just like the gross, organic orifices growing out of the basement in the secret government laboratory on the edge of town in Hawkins — the sleepy suburb where Stranger Things takes place. No, you won’t be able to enter the Upside-Down when you enter these portals. Instead, they’ll instantly transport you to another connecting portal.

The portals (so far) are only appearing in the Mega Mall. Knowing Stranger Things, the evil that infects the Mega Mall might be spreading underground — I wouldn’t be surprised to see the portals popping up in other narrow locations around the map.

There’s more than just strange portals to find. You can also explore another location that’s specific to Stranger Things Season 3 — the Scoops Ahoy Ice Cream joint, where one of my personal favorite characters gets a summer job, can be found in the Mega Mall. Sadly, you can’t steal a scoop while you’re visiting.

Will there be more secrets and Stranger Things references in Season 9 of Fortnite: Battle Royale? Here’s hoping we’ll be able to earn a Demogorgon skin and scare the pants off of unsuspecting players lurking around the suburbs. Nothing has been revealed yet, so we’ll just have to wait and see — but whatever is about to drop, it’s going to happen very, very soon. I’ll keep this page updated if players manage to find anything else out there.
