Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night – How To Fight OD (Alucard) | Secret Easter Egg Boss Guide

June 21, 2019 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Seriously — Alucard’s Symphony of the Night voice actor appears, and you can fight him. Here’s how to do it.

There’s an awesome secret waiting at the end of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night — not, it isn’t an Inverted Castle, but it’s almost as good. The Kickstarter Metroidvania’s voicecast includes greats like David Hayter, the voice of Solid Snake — and there’s another famous voice from the past you’ll find deep into the castle grounds. Robert Belgrade, the voice of Alucard, the hero of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, makes a cameo as a conspicuously helpful vampire named O.D.

The librarian isn’t just a vendor. If you borrow the wrong book from him, you can trigger an incredibly difficult boss fight. That’s when O.D. truly shines — and unleashes a torrent of fan-favorite abilities Alucard once used in his classic 2D adventure. O.D. transforms into mist, stops time, summons Dracula fireballs from his cape, and more references to his past games. This guy is just straight up Alucard, and you can earn an incredibly useful power if you defeat him.

How To Fight OD (Alucard) | Secret Easter Egg Boss Guide

To fight O.D. — which stands for Orlock Dracul — you’ll need to fulfill a whole bunch of tricky requirements. He’s also easily the hardest boss in the game, and the most powerful opponent. Defeating him unlocks two awesome bonuses — you’ll get a Stopwatch ability that completely stops time, and the ability to take every book from the library, all at the same time.

Step #1: To fight O.D., you’ll first need to beat the true final boss and get the best ending. We’ve got the steps for that covered completely in a guide linked above.

Step #2: After that, you’ll need 99% map completion. Start hunting those hidden rooms — when you get 99% map completion, a new book will appear in O.D.’s Library in the Livre Ex Machine area.

Step #3: Go there, and take out the ‘Tome of Conquest‘ from the library. This book will only appear if you’ve earned at least 99% map completion.

Step #4: Teleport to the fast-travel green room in the Glacial Tomb, and go up and left to the small, single room. If you have the ‘Tome of Conquest’, a boss door will appear. Go inside, and you’ll be able to face off against OD in the toughest fight in the game.

O.D. uses a variety of attacks that Alucard possesses in Symphony of the Night — he can summon fire from the ground like Dracula, shoot ice-spikes, stop time, turn into mist, and even suck your blood. With the voice of SoTN’s Alucard, he basically -is- Alucard. He’s incredibly powerful, so bring tons of healing items to bring this guy down.

If you defeat him, you’ll earn the Stand Still Shard. Equip it to stop time. As long as time is stopped, you’ll drain MP — this is also an awesome Castlevania Easter egg, because the effect is essentially the same as the Stopwatch power-up. If you return to O.D’s Library you can also take every book in the library, all at the same time. That’s a huge stat bonus!

This is one of the best Easter eggs we’ve seen in a game, with a useful skill waiting for you at the end. I highly recommend going for this after you beat the game — it’s the best challenge.
