Deadside
- Developer: Bad Pixel
- Publisher: Bad Pixel
- Platforms: PC
- Release: 2019
In a way, Deadside is a bit like Rust in the sense that players will be interacting in this massive world full of different players. However, there isn’t a fantasy element to Deadside, instead, this is more of a realistic-type adventure where the world is full of despair and factions, groups, along with other wanderers will be aimlessly going about their day. Combat is based around gunplay and developers over at Bad Pixel have stated that the world will be big enough to run into groups of NPCs that may or may not be hostile. It’s really up to you when deciding if this meeting could go south. There is also mention of a crafting system which would allow players to build structures that can be used to keep resources, but because the game hasn’t entered early access yet, the mechanics of how the building component will take place isn’t very well documented. Likewise, this is a pre-alpha build right now so it very well may not make it out into the market until 2020.
Remnant From Ashes
- Developer: Gunfire Games
- Publisher: Perfect World Entertainment
- Platforms: PS4, XBO, PC
- Release: 2019
From the development team that is bringing out Darksiders III comes Remnant From Ashes. This is an upcoming survival-action shooter which follows players who must fight back against a slew of monsters that range in size and abilities. There is also a play on the various worlds you’ll be dwelling within which may require players to further tweak their characters resources in order to survive the hostilities. Likewise, each area players will be traversing in will have various resources to craft weapons, equipment, along other characters to recruit. The game hasn’t been shown off all that much right now and its only slated to launch within this year, but it’s certainly on our radars with hopes that new information will soon show up online.
WiLD
- Developer: Wild Sheep Studio
- Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
- Platforms: PS4
- Release: 2019
It’s anyone’s guess as to if WiLD will actually release into the market. This game has been talked about and shown off since 2014 and now that we’re approaching the end years of the PlayStation 4, there are rumors saying WiLD may be bumped to a PlayStation 5 exclusive. Regardless, this survival action game is still one that gamers can’t wait to get their hands on. Overall, the world procedurally generated while players take the role of a man set in the prehistoric Neolithic period. Within the game, players will have to scavenge for food and items to stay alive, but there is also the added ability to seek out the help of animals within the wild to aid you in your journey.
Again, this game has been around for several years with no real big updates to the development process. Most will even label the game as a title suck in development hell, but so far there is no indication of it being killed off or cancelled. Perhaps this will be the year we’ll finally get new information and a concrete release date.
Astroneer
- Developer: System Era Softworks
- Publisher: System Era Softworks
- Platform: PC, XBO
- Release Date: February 6, 2019
Astroneer is a video game title that was playable since 2016 as an early access title. This is a sandbox adventure title that doesn’t have any real rhyme or reason. There’s no storyline to progress through nor does it have a set end goal. Instead, the game puts a focus on players to build, craft and simply survive the harsh elements of the world.
Players take on the role of an astronaut who navigates to a world that can be shaped freely. Likewise, the game will allow crafting and exploration through the use of various vehicles. However, the open world environment can be troublesome for our protagonist which ultimately means players will need to keep a sharp eye on their surroundings. Likewise, to keep your protagonist alive, players will need to gather resources such as fuel to power the spacecraft along with a healthy stockpile of oxygen reserve tanks.
