Top Holiday Gift Ideas For Nintendo Switch Platform

December 5, 2018 by Dennis Patrick

The best holiday gift ideas for the Nintendo Switch platform 2018.

Dead Cells

  • Developer: Motion Twin
  • Publisher: Motion Twin

Developers Motion Twin tends to release video games completely for free to enjoy but their latest release became a massive hit and you’ll have to pay for a legitimate copy to enjoy it. Dead Cells made its way around the web when it launched in August of this year where it picked up traction as being a great roguelike-Metroidvania style game. In the game, players take the role of a protagonist named Prisoner who must attempt to escape a fortress and while the protagonist cannot die, when the health bar completely depletes, the character spawns back at the beginning of the game with the world altered.

Combat is fluid and quick with a variety of boss fights to battle along the way. Dead Cells can also be quite challenging as there will be no checkpoints meaning if you die, you’re going to be left restarting from the start once again.

Stardew Valley

  • Developer: ConcernedApe
  • Publisher: Chucklefish

Stardew Valley has been a huge hit that acts very much like the Harvest Moon franchise. This is a farming style simulation title where players take on the role of a character who inherits their grandfather’s dilapidated farm.

Again, much like Harvest Moon, the game will have players tending to crops and their livestock while also introducing craft goods, mining, among other social activities. Since its release back in 2016 the video game became a massive hit and has sold over three million units by the end of 2017.

Dark Souls Remastered

  • Developer: FromSoftware
  • Publisher: Namco Bandai Games

Dark Souls released all the way back in 2011 so it’s been available to play for quite some time now. However, if you were uninterested in going back to this highly beloved action RPG simply due to the visual standpoint then you’ll be delighted to know the game will be receiving a remastered edition.

There’s not very much to say about this upcoming title if you’ve already enjoyed it on last generation consoles. This remastered edition will retain the same gameplay mechanics but there will be a facelift to help give the game a nice touch up for modern day consoles. Likewise, the game will receive improved framerate, resolution and the Artorias of the Abyss DLC.

Minecraft

  • Developer: Mojang
  • Publisher: Microsoft Studios

Minecraft developed by Mojang has grown up to a life of its own with players both young and old going through and crafting their own worlds.

Ultimately, the video game is about survival staying away from what spawns at night while keeping your vitals up. Most of the versions available for Minecraft feature online gameplay with the PC release requiring a server to be set up before friends are able to join in and help with some creative builds. Likewise, there are several online servers to join in order to compete in various game modes such as a makeshift hide-and-seek game.

Sonic Mania Plus

  • Developer: PagodaWest Games, Headcannon
  • Publisher: Sega

Sonic the Hedgehog is a staple video game character. Decades have passed since the IP launched and to this day, there are still new Sonic games being pumped out.

Sonic Mania is a side-scrolling platformer that fans of the original Sonic the Hedgehog video game will be familiar with as this particular Sonic title will return to the original gameplay and visual art styles. However, gamers can expect new boss fights, expanded levels along with new elements new to the franchise.
