Persona 5: How to Unlock the Optional Tower Confidant

April 28, 2017 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Can’t find this late-game confidant in Persona 5? Here’s what you’ll need to do to unlock him.

Not every Confidant is immediately easy to locate in Persona 5. Some won’t appear unless you follow a very specific order of events — the Tower Confidant, one of the more optional Confidants, requires you to first attempt a Mementos Shadow battle. We’ll explain all the details below.

The Tower Confidant, a gamer named Shinya or “King”, is a master with fake guns. He’ll teach you how to use your guns in new, exciting ways. Guns are an easy-to-overlook power in Persona 5, and powering up your arsenal can’t hurt.

See exactly how to unlock this confidant with the quick guide below.

How to Unlock the Optional Tower Confidant

After completing the fourth palace (Futaba’s Palace), you’ll eventually get a message from Mishima and unlock the “Winners Don’t Use Cheats” quest. For this quest, you’ll need to defeat a video game cheater in Mementos.

  1. First, you’ll need to get the cheater’s name. Go to the Arcade on Central Street (Shibuya) and talk to the patrons standing near the shooter arcade game. They’ll give you the cheater’s real name.
  2. Enter Mementos and confront the cheater. He’s invincible — there’s no way to defeat him. He’ll dodge your every attack. Keep attempting to fight, and your party will retreat.
    • After discussing your options, the team decides to find a great player that can beat the cheater at his own game.
  3. Find Shinya at the Akihabara Arcade. Talk to him and he’ll teach you how to play — and form a contract with you.

Keep pressing Shinya, and he’ll relent and offer to help you. Improving this confidant unlocks new gun abilities. After one session, you’ll be able to return to Mementos and complete the “Winners Don’t Use Cheats” request.
