There is no doubt the fans have been loving the new reformed, revitalized Nintendo. Ever since the Switch released, it feels like Nintendo is earning back some of the gaming community’s trust.
Thanks to good third-party support, and a strong line-up of exclusives, some gamers have yet to even get a Switch due to high demand by consumers. GameStop’s COO Tony Bartel stated today in a investors meeting that the company is seeing “incredibly strong” demand for the Switch.
Last week, they announced that some units were coming into some stores, and it seems that the units don’t even stay on store shelves longer than a couple of hours.
“The demand is incredibly strong for this. As soon as we get it into our stores, it’s out within hours. So we anticipate we’re going to be chasing supply this entire year,” Bartel said of Nintendo’s new hardware.
Bartel then goes on to say that the Switch and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is almost at a 1:1 to attach rate.
“The other thing is, every game that’s out there, to have over a five and a half attach rate to this, signifies that a lot of people are finding this a great platform and they’re picking up any games that they can. I mean, we have almost a one-to-one attach of Zelda.”
In the first week of its launch, the Switch reportedly sold 1.5 million units worldwide. The company’s goal is to hit 2 million units sold in the first moth. Specifically, the report from SuperData (via GamesIndustry) which states that 500,000 consoles were sold in the US, with 360,000 units shifted in Japan. Europe apparently “isn’t far behind:” the only numbers the sales monitor reports for Europe are that France saw 110,000 sales and the UK sold 85,000.
