Ex-Sony PR: Sony is Sending Titles Out to Die

September 25, 2012 by Alex Co

The Tester season 1 winner and ex-Sony PR Will Powers has a few scathing words for his former employers…

While it's common for ex-employees to hold a grudge and speak ill of their former employers, it seems The Tester Season 1 winner and ex-Sony PR (Public Relations) representative Will Powers is taking it to another level.

Just in case you didn't know, Sony recently laid off a sizable portion of their PR staff last week. Obviously, Powers was one of those affected.

Powers then took to his Twitter account to tweet his displeasure at Sony and even questions the company's priorities. While Powers deleted almost all of his tweets, Kotaku managed to grab each and everyone and we've quoted the most "interesting" tweets below.

You have to wonder what the hell PlayStation was thinking laying off more than half of their software PR team going into the holiday season.

In typical fashion they're sending titles out to die, because they have no PR support — LBPK, Sports Champions 2, Wonderbook.

Worst part it, the PR department was already under-staffed. I feel sorry for those that remain there, because their workload just doubled.

That being said, you have to question the priorities of the company as a whole – What the point of AdHoc multiplayer when no one has a Vita?

Sony in general is serving too many masters. Each company should operate autonomously. PlayStation shouldn't suffer b/c TVs are overpriced.

In spite of all this, Powers states that with all this being said, he genuinely likes and cares for the PS product, but that "they're being hamstrung from success internally."

While I do agree with Powers that Sony did more missteps this generation than the previous two, one has to wonder if any company is willing to hire a PR that does this publicly once they're shown the door. Nothing against Powers, but I really don't see this move of his being accepted well by other videogame companies, no?

Do you think Powers was right in criticizing Sony publicly or should he have held his tongue and looked for another job instead? Let us know what you think.
