Nintendo Switch Battery Will Take Three Hours To Fully Charge

January 19, 2017 by Dennis Patrick

Three hours to charge with less than six hours of gameplay time.

We’re still learning new little factoids about the upcoming Nintendo console, the Nintendo Switch. Today, we’re finding out that the console itself will take a total of three hours to fully charge the device. This may hamper some gamers who intend to use this device more on-the-go than something kept in its dock.

News regarding the charge time was reported by Gamer Professionals who noticed a page within Nintendo’s Japanese website stating the time it would take gamers to fully charge the device from a dead battery. Tucked away within the device is a 4210mAh rechargeable 3.7V Lithium-ion battery which is charged through a USB type-C adapter or through the provided dock.

With a display that outputs 1280 x 720 resolution, graphically intense gameplay may drain the battery faster than what it takes to actually charge the device. Nintendo has stated in the past that the console will last anywhere between 2.5 hours to 6 hours outside of the dock. However, with the brightness setting, Wi-Fi, and of course the video game title itself, we’re likely looking more towards the 2.5 hours of battery time.

It will be interesting to see if Nintendo offers some type of expanded battery option in the future to allow gamers the ability to add more gameplay time in the future, though already gamers may not be too fond of the upcoming Nintendo peripherals that are relatively pretty costly. Picking up a Nintendo Switch Pro controller, another Joy-Con controller set, and another Nintendo Switch Dock set would set you back around $240 and at that price it’s well worth just buying another Nintendo Switch which comes with another set of Joy-Con controllers, a Nintendo Switch Dock set, and the console itself.
