Mass Effect: Andromeda’s Multiplayer Is More Closely Tied to the Main Game

January 9, 2017 by Kris Kittie

This differs from Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer which was not tied to the story much at all.

BioWare producer Mike Gamble recently spoke to Kotaku about the multiplayer for Mass Effect: Andromeda. He says that, ““There’s a system that we use called the Strike Team system, and fundamentally it allows you to go between single player and multiplayer within the game,” Gamble told Kotaku.

Mass Effect: Andromeda’s Strike Team mode is “packaged around a meta-story of what’s going on in Helios,” however you can still experience this whole story in single player if multiplayer is not your cup of tea.

This is a nice change from Mass Effect 3, where the multiplayer was pretty much unrelated to what was going on with the protagonist. However, if you wanted to save humanity, you had to put some time into multiplayer. It’s no surprise that single-player RPG fans were not impressed by this aspect.

Strike Team will be available to fire up from within Mass Effect: Andromeda itself rather than as a separate main menu as well. “Because narratively it’s all connected, it makes a lot of sense.” Gamble commented.

In addition, Andromeda will not have dedicated servers for multiplayer. Considering the type of game Mass Effect is, it is not suprising. Although it could be a sticking point for those who want to be very involved with the multiplayer, especially if Andromeda ends up having some form of competitive mode.

Bioware overall has been fairly tight-lipped about information about the game, but this particular interview gave fans a bit of insight and somewhat demystified the multiplayer mode. The full interview can be accessed through the link above.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is slated for a March 21st 2017 release date.
