Activision has just made the surprise announcement that it plans to turn AMC's ever popular series about zombies, The Walking Dead, into an FPS.
Not to be confused with Telltale's excellent episodic adventure series, The Walking Dead FPS is being developed at Bloodrayne developer Terminal Reality. The story in the FPS will revolve around that of Daryl Dixon and Marle Dixon on what the developer describes as a "haunting, unforgiving quest to make their way to the supposed safety of Atlanta."
Players take on the role of Daryl as the two brothers must avoid zombies who hunt using sight, sound and smell. Players will have the option to choose between taking the undead head on or using stealth to avoid detection.
"No place is truly safe for Daryl as he makes his way through the Georgia countryside in this new, post-apocalyptic world," reads the press brief.
Not unlike The Last of Us and post-apocalyptic titles like Day Z and I Am Alive, resources will be extremely scarce, and players will have to manage food, ammunition and supplies as they claw their way through the wasteland. Players will also encounter other survivors who can either help or hinder their progress, and decisions will have to be made along the way.
The Walking Dead is slated for a 2013 release on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
