Star Citizen’s Singleplayer Reportedly Delayed Until 2017

September 5, 2016 by Nick Monroe

An interview with Chris Roberts sheds light on the delay.

When it came to Star Citizen‘s singleplayer campaign, many were led to believe the release of it was to be in 2016. That news had come from the final moments of the Admiral Bishop Senate Speech trailer put out at CitizenCon 2015, in addition to what was stated on Cloud Imperium Games own website. Squadron 42 is slated to have Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Mark Hamil, and other noteworthy cast members in it’s main story. Once a more linear game, the scope of it had increased in recent years to be a more open world experience.

However, as is being reported by PCGamesN, Kotaku, and BluesNews, the prospect of that release window being met is diminishing.  They all point to the same source of a German magazine known as GameStar. In an interview with Chris Roberts, it’s apparently said that Squadron 42 is most likely to arrive by mid to late 2017, instead of the present Q4 2016 window that’s being advertised. If you want to read more about the controversies surrounding the game, there’s several pieces on Gameranx covering the topic. People have voiced their concerns about various aspects of the project, and we took the time to explore these in-depth.

Star Citizen is set to release on PC someday. Chris Roberts does not like attaching releasing dates to these things, so it’s “done when it’s done”.
