Unseen64 Details Cancelled Daredevil Video Game

June 27, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

Daredevil: The Man Without Fear shelved just six months before release.

Unseen64 is a YouTube channel that had successfully shed some light on why select video games had been cancelled. It’s quite interesting to see just how many of these video games got so close to being released to the general public only to be shelved because of forces outside of their control. Today, we’re looking at one of the latest videos from Unseen64 which focuses on a Daredevil game that was set to release for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC.

We highly suggest giving the video above a look over as this short little documentary details the downfall of 5000ft Inc. video game Daredevil: The Man Without Fear. To give a slight recap on the video, ultimately the video game was shelved due to constraints between the publisher Encore along with Sony and Marvel.

What was originally meant to be a smaller third-person action title for the PlayStation 2 grew into a massive production of an open-world video game. Daredevil: The Man Without Fear was nearly finished with its development cycle, despite internal struggles with creative control and substance abuse.

However, because Sony and Marvel budded heads on how the video game should play out, the title was never released. Sony demanded new gameplay mechanics along with featuring an element from the Tony Hawk Pro Skater video game which would allow Daredevil to rail grind throughout the map while Marvel felt that these changes did not accurately represent the Daredevil comic book character.

After trying to appease both companies the development team 5000ft Inc. was forced to shelve the game just six months before it was set to release. With no playable demos available we’re finally getting some of the finer details and gameplay footage of the cancelled title.

Because Daredevil has become more mainstream thanks to the Netflix original series, we’re curious to see if Marvel will once again attempt to release a video game starring the hero. Regardless, check out the entire demise rundown of the video game within the YouTube video posted above.
