PS5 consoles may go past PS4’s sales records… but not for reasons Sony will want.
As 1st found by chasm, a new PS5 jailbreak app has emerged called PS5LM Plus. As described in homebrew.page, PS5LM Plus:
Runs local language models (GGUF, llama.cpp) on the PS5’s GPU, with a dashboard on the TV, model downloads, and a chat and OpenAI-compatible API for your network.i
Chasm shared further context on social media:
Someone jailbroke a PS5 and got Qwen 3.8 27B running on its GPU at 20 tok/s. That’s a real 27B AI model running locally on a games console.
The same model on the PS5’s CPU did about one token a minute.
Meanwhile, DDR4 prices are up 24% in 3 months, AMD just raised GPU memory prices, and 5090s are basically gone.

Qwen is an AI model originally created by Chinese conglomerate Alibaba. The danger for Sony is even if they patch out the latest jailbreak, the AI companies now have motivation to jailbreak it again.
PlayStation won’t make software revenue on PS5s relegated to datacenters. So, this is a genuine crisis.
