Sony may be calling it quits on PSVR.

As reported by Road To VR, Sony is planning to sell 419 global patents related to XR (extended reality) to Facebook parent company Meta. They already transferred 43 US patents between June to September 2026.
These patents covered ideas like different kinds of XR glasses, head-mounted displays, and how XR apps worked. Sony is selling off patents that date to as far back as 2010, to 2022.
They also found the Confirmatory Assignment agreement enabling this transfer, and learned it was signed back in December 2025. Given how quiet Sony has been about PSVR and PSVR 2, this does look like a shift away from that accessory and technology.
Sony remains one of the largest manufacturers of head-mounted displays, and is making a separate enterprise-level headset with Siemens. But given how the tech industry has shifted from VR/XR and the metaverse to AI models, this would not be a surprising shift at all.
