Nintendo has launched an oddly described but very welcome sale.
They made this announcement on their site:
Nintendo of America is excited to announce the Customer Appreciation Sale, one of our largest promotions ever, featuring 30% off dozens of Nintendo Switch digital games and bundles, plus savings on select physical games, downloadable content, accessories, amiibo, and apparel.
They’re holding this sale from September 12 to 26. If you’re wondering if tariffs have something to do with it, Nintendo has confirmed it:
The Customer Appreciation Sale is our way of saying thank you to Nintendo players for their continued support and is made possible in part by tariff-related refunds. While Nintendo absorbed most tariff-related costs, the refunds helped make promotions like this one possible.
As we reported last month, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa explained they did cover tariff costs last year. We know there are gamers who remain skeptical about this claim, but Furukawa would not make this claim if they couldn’t defend it in court.
Strange messaging aside, Nintendo is just following the lead of other consumer goods companies who received IEEPA tariff refunds. We’re actually wondering when Sony and Microsoft will do the same thing.
